Any ideas as to where we can hold LA Jedi's One Year Anniversary party in Mid August?
The house we were going to have it in is not available after all.
No, I don't want to have it in the park. We can't have alcohol!
Sadly, as Star Wars fans, those of us who don't live with our Mommies live in apartments.
We don't want to disturb any direct neighbors.
We need a house or location that is relatively centrally located. If they don't serve alcohol, it needs to be allowed.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Since nobody's come up with anything so far, I'll share these suggestions.
Would we consider travelling a little, like to OC or West Covina?
Would we consider renting a place, if they allow alcohol? (If we all shared the cost, we could probably get something pretty reasonable.) I used to run dinner events for a Medieval Group I belonged to. If everyone pitches in we could probably manage to do this for $20 a head or less, including eats. (Booze might be extra.)
Would we consider a beach party? I'm sure some beaches allow drinking & don't close at sundown. I'd suggest a camping trip, but I don't think we really want to listen to each other snore all night.

I would prefer we not travel too far. An LA Jedi party in OC? I'd like to stay as close to LA as possible. Most beaches do not allow alcohol. And remember, we are broke- ass Jedi. Renting is not an option. It would exclude people, times are tough.

I'll do some research for local beaches where bon fires, alcohol, and lightsabers are allowed. It will take me a few days.

If you guys wanna drink at the beach, alcohol is pretty much banned except for a few places in San Diego. For bonfires, check this out www.beachcalifornia.com/beach-bonfires-california.htmlI recommend Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, or Newport Beach. Both are Close by and are apparently free (not to mention some good surf fishing ;D) I want to add to stay away from Dockweiler beach, the water is more polluted than other areas, and there are airplanes flying overhead constantly due to it being close to the airport, so having a conversation with the person next to you can be tough. And if you guys really wanna bring lightsabers to the beach, I've brought my bo staff a few times to practice without any problems, I'm sure it shouldn't be an issue (Unless you start beating people for beach territory ;D)

A few of us went to Newport Beach for the Indiana Jones fan film. By the force, that was a long haul!!!

Why be sorry? You were just trying to think of something. Sometimes Yoda is incorrect. There is try.

How about my place? It's in Glendale near the Americana and the Galleria. Next to my apartment complex is a gated grassy area where folks often hold parties. We would have the park feel but still have alcohol. There's a grill like you would typically find in a park. I'd welcome everybody to come have fun. Jenn contact my email for scouting the area or more details.

Actually for me it would depend on which date since with Clone Wars and all my August is pretty much booked. Oh and a Fuel update I think it is coming down I only paid $4.79 today vs more than $5.00

'Scuse my cynicism, but, sure gas prices will go down until the election is over, then see how fast they get back up to $5.00 and worse.
Personally, how much I'm willing to fork over for gas is directly proportional to how much I want to do the thing I have to drive to and how much I can afford. (Hence, no Disneyland or ComicCon for me this year.)
I'm for Glendale, too. It's not as far for me as driving to San Diego or Disneyland. A picnic sounds nice, especially if we've got music, BBQ and cold alcohol. My only question would be...are there fresher facilities? (Note the Star Wars Universe reference on a Star Wars message board.)

There are three movie theaters(Mann 4,Mann 10 and Pacific 16) within walking distance of my building. If the party is scheduled for opening day of Clone Wars(midnight show) we could all walk over together. Picture an army of us heading towards the Americana with lightsabers in hand.
P.S. Folks can feel free to use the fresher facilities in my place.

It's gotta be potluck unless one of us wins the lottery. People who are really broke can always bring paper plates &/or cups, plastic 'silverware,' bags of ice.
I'd just like to request that Clawdite Daize bring that carne asada &/or marinated chicken, if he is able.
Picnic!! BBQ!!

Oh definitely pot luck. Eat lightly beforehand and serve finger food. If everybody brings something we can make this a worthwhile time. The area I'm proposing is a simple, long, grassy area for parties and picnics. We set up some tables, chairs and blankets then save or destroy the Republic. It's great to see this idea gaining support. I'd like for some mods to weigh in on this topic as well.

We can go to Glendale if that's where the party is going to be! It will be better if it is during the weekend of the release of the clone wars so we can all get to see it as a group! I just hope that it won't be towards the end of the month since we will be heading to the mountains for labor day weekend but any other weekend on August will be fine.
P.S. Adriana is volunteering to get a mexican home made dish and her special dip for the chips! She just needs to get the final head count in advance to bring enough for all of us!
Take care all!
