Family Guy Finds Emmy Loophole With Star Wars Parody By Jenna Wortham EmailJune 04, 2008 | 12:46:36 PM Family Guy is striking back -- against the Emmy's. This year, the show about a dysfunctional Rhode Island family falls as a candidate for a prestigious television award in either one of two categories -- best comedy show or animated series. This creates a troubling quandary for the team behind the show, who both want to get recognized for savvy writing as well as their efforts in cartooning. Until now. Comedy scribes at the show who want their scripts to compete alongside live-action comedy shows like The Office and My Name is Earl have found a convenient loophole in the Emmy award system. The award for best animated program can be handed to a special, or single episode. As luck would have it, Family Guy's season opener, a Star Wars spoof called "Blue Harvest" (pictured above) was an hourlong special. “We thought we’d give it a shot,” Family Guy executive producer Chris Sheridan told Variety. “We feel the show deserves some recognition. It’s one of the highest-rated half-hour scripted shows. It seems like a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get the recognition they worked so hard for.” ( Source: blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/06/family-guy-find.html )
