ok, so i have been looking on line for ideas and/ or places to start putting together my jedi/rogue/sith (still haven't decided) costume. and in my searches, i have found... well, confusion. i really do not want to start yet another opinionated thread reguarding patterns and materials and all that cruddy McCrudness... so i thought i would ask my fellow L.A. Jedi (NY Jedi too) peeps to point me in the direction of a place i can pick up, or at least start picking up my jedi clothes. (this part is important) i can't sew so i really have no real use for patterns. any help you can provide would mean a lot. mtfbwy dave aka the barjedi

I think there's a link somewhere here. If you explore this website you can probably find it. I'll look, too.
This is why I keep on saying we need workshops for equipment and costume building, though.
You could be our Padawan. The diagram I used was pretty easy and, except for the cloak hood, could be followed by a beginning sewer, especially with a little help.
If I had time, I'd teach you. But, I'm working on my own projects right now. I'll be happy to do so when I get the chance, but do not have enough room OR electrical outlets for a full blown costuming class.

seriously, i am so confused... one guy says to go to this website and another says they don't use the right material, buy theese boots, don't buy them... it's a lot to sort out. i imagine you guys went through something similar... all i want is something decent quality that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg... and looks pretty good. again thanks...
thanks Vare for the info so far

I understand the fabrics used in Obi Wan's original Jedi robes for Episodes I-II were cotton gauze like material for his undertunic, some plain cotton twill like stuff for the pants, antique silk for the over tunic and army blanket material for the outer cloak.
You probably don't have to duplicate the materials exactly. I would stay away from 100% Poly, but blends are ok. I went with linen for the outer tunic, tabbards and obi. It looks really nice until it wrinkles. Well, you'll see it Sunday.
I'll bring Dressing a Galaxy and one of my basic costuming books to next practice to give you a better idea about the direction you want to go.
If you post which websites you've gone to I'd be glad to take a look and give you my opinion, not that my opinion is any better than anyone else's, but I seem to have a little more costuming experience than you, so, I'd be glad to give what aid I can.

well i was at Crazy Old Wizards (kit, roboprop is the prop master for the disney jedi show see if he wants to check out l.a. jedi) in the costuming section. they are an obi-wan fan forum that has tons of links to websites that make my brain feel like a case of Jager fell on it... without the dancing on tables yelling "i have a chicken in my pants" i also did the google thing and again found so many sites with so many opinions... what i am asking is can someone give me a place to start...
it was easy to find a Starfleet uniform, i bought cast quality Star Trek stuff at two or three of the big cons and i was done. a Jedi has a much more complex set of clothes, and thus a much more complex search for the things i need.

I googled Crazy Wizards and looked it up on Wookepedia, too. I couldn't find any such website.

Barjedi My costume is Obiwan Prequel Style and it is not screen accurate and the funny thing all the material was $2.00 per yard at Walmart, If you make it to the Con Sunday I will show you the details.

Thanks for the link BarJedi. It looks very interesting and I plan to do more research. I'm hoping to find more about expanded universe costumes & working with resin.
Another great place to buy fabric is the Garment District around Maple and 9th. I've gotten some great fabrics for 1/2 or even 1/3 the price I would have paid in most regular fabric stores. Next search will be for wool for a proper Jedi Cloak.
