My beloved Obi-Wan saber is having sound issues. It seems that the sound is much lower than it was and sounds like the speaker is blown out (crackle sound) Anyone have similar problems? If so, what have you done to fix it?

I should get a Super Soaker and fill it with Coca-Cola and hose you down for that one! ;D
Yes, I have changed the batteries. That was actually what I thought was the problem first since I haven't dropped it or anything like that.

One thing I hate about any forum i have ever belonged to is that when you ask a question some jack hole always has some smart ass think to say... Not hating on anyone in particular, and if I offend I truly am sorry. Now not to get off topic, there are a few REAL things you can try. First you. Can check the connections maybe one or two are loose. To do this you have to disassemble the battery pack. At least take off the speaker cover. Push in the little plastic thingies(triangular) that stick through the cylender that holds the batteries and gently pry off the speaker cover. Wires are short so don't pull too hard. By the way you can easily break the plastic bits so BE CAREFUL!!! A little checking of the connection, solder if necessary and slap it together... Presto done. Second is to get a speaker from an old cordless phone or go to TCSS and buy theirs. The TCSS speaker is pretty thin and you can fit it into a luke batery pack with enough room for a piece of 35mm film canister. This makes a good resonance chamber which adds volume and depth to the saber. The luke I did this to is louder and has a deeper hum. It's crazy awsome!! Caution, if you are going to try to take it apart, you are almost guarenteed to break the wires inside the battery pack! They are really really short!!! So go in knowing that you will be soldering the wires back to the speaker.
Now to say that what I said at the begining of this post was in no way hating on Bruce!!! It was a comment reguarding an overly obvious post, the likes of which are seen all over the net.

My comment was not intended as a smart-ass comment. When the batteries start fading, my Obi sounds crappy long before the LEDs go out.
Many times, people forget the obvious things, such as batteries.
And gosh, why would I ever be offended at being called a "jack hole" with an "overly obvious" post"? Someone needs to try lifting himself up, instead of tearing others down, for a change.

It was meant as a general statement to overly obvious posts and not to you, as stated in the post. I'm sorry that I offended you.
